Educator, philanthropist, born at Fuentellana, Spain, 1488; died at Valencia, 8 September, 1555; canonized by Pope Alexander VII on November 1, 1658. Liturgical feast day is celebrated on September 22. Namesake and patron saint of Villanova University, near Philadelphia. From a series of 17th century portraits of Catholic clergy.
