Hand-colored engraving. 8vo. size, 9.5 x 12” (24 x 30 cm). Later editions of originals by artists Sydenham Edwards, James Sowerby, and others, printed in the Curtis family’s long-running “Botanical Magazine,” initially printed by Stephen Couchman and sold in Great Britain, 1793-1803. Archival mat & enclosure. Near fine with light vertical creasing and toning. The original incarnation of the magazine was published in 162 volumes and included 10,000 colored plates of wild English flora, representing the most complete graphical catalogue produced. First 70 volumes contain copper plates colored by hand; later volumes include lithograph prints.
