Pierre Joseph Buchoz was born in Metz in 1731. He was a physician, as well as a passionate naturalist. At the age of 28, he was appointed physician to the King of Poland, but left his post to pursue his interest in botany. He was a prolific publisher of botanical works including Herbier Artificiel, Histoire du Regne Vegetal, Histoire Universelle, Le Jardin dEden, and Collections Precieuse et Eluminees des Fleurs.
